Poster for 1001 Nights Apart

In Iran dancing is forbidden, and the word itself may not be used. In a secret studio in Tehran, a group of young people tries to teach themselves to dance. They know little about the rich history of Iranian dance before the 1979 Revolution. Filmmaker Sarvnaz Alambeigi discovers rare footage of the National Ballet and brings together the old and new generations of Iranian dancers. The young dancers develop choreographies on personal themes such as sexuality and feminism. The film crew visits exiled dancers to persuade them to collaborate. Only one dancer is interested in today’s dance culture and invites the group to Rotterdam. But after the death of General Soleimani, the visas are not granted. However, the young troupe does not give up.
